BEST - ALL BY HIMSELF
Maradona. Pelé. Best. Northern Ireland's legendary star remains one of the most naturally gifted footballers there has ever been. Famously called the 'best player in the world' by Pelé, George Best galvanized Manchester United's five-year recovery from the tragedy of the Munich air crash. His skill and exuberance inspired them to win league titles and the European Cup, even though he was little more than a teenager. Tragically, his career in the upper echelons of sport was over before he turned 29, the result of his bruising battle with alcoholism and the crushing pressure of modern fame. (After all, this was Britain in the frenzy of Beatle-mania and 1960s youth culture, where Best was dubbed 'El Beatle' by the world's media.) Producer John Battsek (2016's Oscar-nominated Winter on Fire: Ukraine's Fight for Freedom, The Imposter, Project Nim) and director Daniel Gordon re-team after their acclaimed, Emmy-nominated Hillsborough to deliver a heart-breaking portrait of one of the world's truly great sporting talents, whose extraordinary gift was decimated by his own addiction.

Flowerfield Arts Centre
The Robert Sellars Bequest
A Collection of Relief Prints, Woodcuts & Etchings
Artist and print maker Robert Sellar gifted a collection of his work to Flowerfield Arts Centre before he died at the venerable age of 92. A quiet man he was admired as a master print maker and his work is comparable with other post-modernist printmakers like Julian Trevelyan and Eric Ravilious.
Each year we exhibit his work for the public to enjoy and to say “thank you Mr Sellar” for your extraordinary gift.
If they stitched it, painted it, potted it, fired it, sketched it, melted it, wrote it or hammered it, then the students at Flowerfield Arts Centre Creative Classes are about to give the world an opportunity to see their fabulous artwork.
Come and help celebrate the creative achievements of these dedicated alumni and see their wonderful work which makes up this year’s Student Show.

The Bushmills Salmon & Whiskey Festival was started to celebrate the local culture, heritage and produce. It is a two day event showcasing music, food, the arts and delivering a unique experience for everyone. The concept of the festival was developed by Bushmills Traders Association but has been adopted by the local Council, Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council. The name came from the world renowned Bushmills Distillery and the salmon which inhabit the River Bush. Bushmills was originally known as Portcaman. In the 1600’s it became a small industrial settlement and important centre for corn and flax, milling, spade, paper and whiskey production. The river one powered seven mills along it’s stretch through the village. The flax mill later generated renewable electricity which powered the Giant’s Causeway tram. Bushmills is the ‘Gateway to the Giant’s Causeway’. The first licence to distil whiskey was granted to the Bushmills Distillery in 1608 and it is now a well-known tourist attraction.
The festival incorporates whiskey tasting and visitors can learn about how it is made. The festival features cookery demonstrations by a celebrity chef and also local chefs with locally sourced produce. Restaurants and eateries in the town have offers promoting locally sourced salmon and/or Bushmills Whiskey as key ingredients. As well as celebrating local salmon and whiskey the festival showcases other local produce including chocolates, cheeses, ice cream, preserves, jams, crafts etc. at the Causeway Coast and Glens Artisan Market on Saturday 17th. This is supported with various artists performing music or dance routines on a stage in the town centre. There are workshops for children with various other activities for them.
One day workshop packed full of sewing tips and techniques for students of mixed abilities, Angie Kelly will show you how to get to grips with a sewing machine and learn the basic skills to get you going. Please note the men are welcome to enrol for this workshop as well as the girls! Bring your own sewing machine if you have one. Max No. Students: 8 per class.

MOONLIGHT
Portrush Film Theatre (Kiwis)
It has become, perhaps, one of the biggest mistakes in Academy Award history, as La La Land was mistakenly called out for the Best Picture instead of the real winner Moonlight. Moonlight charts the life of Chiron across three defining chapters of his life – starting out as a young black man growing up in turbulent Miami, it follows his ongoing struggles with his sexuality and unstable family life. As we follow his life through his teenage years and into manhood – the film becomes a much broader inspection into identity as a whole. Showing how his damaged upbringing with drug-addict mother Paula, and high school tussles shape his road ahead. The New Yorker – “Did I ever imagine, during my anxious, closeted childhood, that I’d live long enough to see a movie like “Moonlight,”
This film has been supported by the Community Foundation for Northern Ireland through the Micro-Grant Programme.
