Big Theatre Telly Company

Presents

FRIDAY 21ST AND SATURDAY 22ND APRIL, NIGHTLY AT 8PM

NI's oldest established professional theatre company presents its latest production

Adapted by Zoë Seaton & Shelley Atkinson
Directed by Zoë Seaton
Music by Garth MacConaghie

Based on the book ‘The Faerie Thorn and Other Stories’ by Jane Talbot, The Faerie Thorn will recreate Talbot’s dark, imaginative and bewitching tales, propelling the audience into a world of devilish debts, trysts and trades, broken bargains and unjust trials; of magic, quick-wittedness, hoodwinking and revenge.

The stories inhabit an incredibly vivid and dangerous world controlled by a complex fairy mafia including factions like the memory takers, the time keepers, the bad talkers and trolls, which humans tackle at their peril.

Over the past thirty years, Big Telly has carved a reputation as bold, risk-taking theatre maker, and The Faerie Thorn production will be a vibrant, contemporary, physical theatre, incorporating masks, movement and illusion. The Faerie Thorn will be witty, dark and wickedly comedic dealing with inexorable human tensions in a way that is shocking and yet terrifyingly familiar.

Age Suitability: 14 years +

Tickets are £13 & £10 and can be purchased from the Box Office.

Described by The Sunday Times as ‘a blues singer of real integrity’, Grainne Duffy is a pioneer of her own style while also paying sincere homage to her roots, soul, blues and rock traditions. With a voice that is as passionate as it is raw and honest, accompanied by simple, melodic and well phrased guitar lines, this is what you have in Grainne Duffy. Having worked with Nico Bolas (Neil Young, Los Lobos & Keith Richards) , 2016 sees her back in the US recording with producer Justin Stanley (Beck, Eric Clapton, Sheryl Crow) . Far back in the memory of old music lies a tradition fast and rhythmical, the sound of soaring and biting flute and fiddle propped up to a backdrop of relentless, driving percussion and bass. Danceable celebratory and at times mournful and lamenting. Music steeped in the ancient and forgotten folk sounds from hidden corners of Europe and beyond. That sound is Burlap! For many years this music was fostered and kept alive by its visionary and pioneer "Dr Burlap" and now with their spiritual leader and guide proudly carried with them the last remaining keepers and true figure heads of this musical journey have been found - The Sons of Burlap.

Sons of Burlap surfaced in late 2012. Sightings have been rare but future appearances have been rumoured. Few recordings are known and video evidence is mysterious. Do what you can to seek them out dear traveller, to know the Burlap is to truly know a spectacle, unique and timeless in our modern world.
