A few more activities for January

Public Meeting about the Proposed Changes to Portrush Town

Antrim Suite Atlantic Hotel

Thursday 19th January 7:30pm

MEETING: PUBLIC REALM/ TOWN CENTRE PLANS
A number of you contacted the Committee to ask if we could arrange a meeting for members of Portrush Matters to discuss the plans put forward at the recent "Consultation" meetings organised by the Council. There is a lot of concern that Portrush people's views are not being taken into consideration, and that the " Consultation" is a fait accompli. There is also concern that money allocated for improving the town will not be effectively spent .
We have booked the Antrim Suite in the Portrush Atlantic Hotel , at 7.30p.m. on Thursday 19th January , so please come along and join the discussion. It should be viewed as an opportunity to bring clear ideas as to what you would like taken forward to decision-makers.
You can also fill in the feedback forms for the Council by going to the Library where a copy of the plans is on view.

Another Date for your Diary in January

Portrush Film Theatre Proudly Presents

I Daniel Blake

Thursday 26th January 7:30pm

Synopsis

The story centres around a 59 year old  joiner Daniel Blake and is set in Newcastle. Daniel has had a heart attack at work. Doctors tell him that he is not ready to go back to work. Applying for sickness benefit he finds that he is not eligible as the authorities have not contacted his doctor for information on his condition. Instead he gets jobseekers allowance but has difficulty in meeting the conditions by actively looking for work as he is not computer literate.

Daniel falls in with single mother Katie and her two children, Dylan and Daisy. They have left a homeless persons' hostel in London and moved to Daniel's home town.  On her first visit to the Job Centre, Katie got lost and being late has lost her benefits. She can now no longer feed  her family or heat their flat.

Together they try to deal with the problems they face together. The rest of the film deals with the problems that they face and Daniels appeal against the decision on his sickness benefit.

This film is directed by Ken Loach and is certainly well worth seeing.

The film is a 15 cert. Doors opening at 7pm for a start time of 7.30pm Tickets are £4
